How to verify a PDF signature in Chrome
An electronically signed PDF carries the proof of its integrity. You still need a way to read it without installing software.
- Right-click the PDF link, or open the PDF in Chrome and click the Certyneo icon.
- Choose "Verify with Certyneo". The file is analyzed locally: it is not uploaded.
- The extension checks that the document was not modified after signing, that each signature matches its certificate, the certificate's validity and whether a timestamp is present.
- The result reads "Valid document" or gives the exact reason for doubt, with a downloadable report.
The extension inspects the file; it does not replace a qualified validation service within the meaning of the eIDAS regulation for signatures issued by other providers.
How to sign a PDF in Chrome without Adobe
No desktop software is needed to sign a PDF: a Certyneo electronic signature is legally valid in Europe.
- Click the Certyneo icon and choose "Sign a PDF", or right-click a PDF link.
- Sign in to Certyneo: you sign in on certyneo.com, and the extension never sees your password.
- The document opens in Certyneo: place your signature, confirm, and download the signed PDF with its evidence file.
Your documents stay yours
- Verification happens in your browser: only the file's SHA-256 fingerprint is sent, to look for a matching Certyneo signature.
- A PDF is sent to Certyneo only when you choose to sign it, send it for signature, analyze it or save it, and only to certyneo.com.
- Signing in goes through certyneo.com (OAuth 2.0 with PKCE): the extension receives neither your password nor an API key.
- No reading of the pages you visit, no history, no ads. Usage statistics are anonymous.
The permissions it asks for, and why
The extension asks for the bare minimum. Access to another website is only requested to read a specific PDF, when you choose it.

Frequently asked questions
- Is the Certyneo extension free?
- Yes. Verifying documents is free and needs no account. Signing and the vault use your Certyneo account, which has a free plan.
- Is my PDF uploaded when I verify it?
- No. The signature analysis runs in your browser. Only the file's SHA-256 fingerprint, which cannot be used to rebuild its content, is sent to look for a Certyneo signature.
- Can I verify a PDF signed with a tool other than Certyneo?
- Yes. The extension reads any standard PDF signature (PAdES): document integrity, match between signature and certificate, certificate dates and timestamp. For those signatures the certificate is not checked against the EU trusted lists, and the extension says so.
- How do I sign a PDF from Chrome?
- Click "Sign a PDF" or right-click a PDF link, sign in to Certyneo, then place your signature in the document that opens.
- What data does the extension collect?
- No browsing data. It keeps your sign-in in the browser and sends anonymous statistics (for example "verification completed"), with no file name, address or email. The details are in its privacy policy.
- Does it work on Microsoft Edge or Brave?
- The extension is built for Google Chrome. Chromium-based browsers that accept extensions from the Chrome Web Store can install it.
