Evidentiary value is the strength with which an electronic document or signature can be admitted and relied upon as evidence in a court of law. It depends on identity proofing, cryptographic integrity, the audit trail, and the legal regime that governs the signature (IT Act 2000, eIDAS, ESIGN/UETA, etc.).
Indian legal context
The Indian Evidence Act (Sections 47A, 67A, 85A through 85C) gives qualified digital signatures backed by CCA-licensed Certifying Authorities a presumptive evidentiary status. Aadhaar eSigns issued by licensed eSign Service Providers benefit from the same presumption. For EU-issued QES, courts in India typically require the foreign certificate to be authenticated under Section 35.
